Curious: How far away is a Comcast/Xfinity store? They had one 4.8
miles away from me, but all city street driving. They closed that
store, and moved to a new store 5 miles away, but nearly all easy
highway driving. I'm in the burbs. I just drive to the store to report
problems, give them the old hardware, and they give me new hardware.
They just want a reason why I suspect the old hardware. The store
counter guys are not techs, so any reason is good enough for them. You
can see their eyes glaze over as I describe all the troubleshooting that
I did.

Yes, I would think the eyes would roll in my case.
I'm a bit handicapped and it was only 2 days and only one website. Besides, it may not have been
the router. I would love to do the forensics on that box!!! or at least hear why.

Better than going up 22,500 miles, then back down 22,500 miles

Ye cannae change the laws of physics, Jim

BT owns my ISP, so essentially it stays within their network as far as
possible, I would interpret 166.49.209.132 as being the last hop within
the UK and 166.49.195.143 as being the first hop within the USA, at
which point it leaves BT's network and meets another peer, who decides
they don't like replying to traceroute packets.

Don't know, just put in a new unit and a quick setup to restore my SSID / password, and away I went.
The traceroute by the way still stops about 9-10 hops but the page loads now, so problem solved with
no idea why other than new modem.

There was a surprisingly long excursion into DNS-land, when it should have been
obvious that it was never a DNS issue. As you may know, DNS has one job, which
is to resolve an FQDN into an IP address, and you showed us that your DNS was
resolving properly very early in the thread.

You also showed us very early on, from the first post actually, that not only
was it not DNS, but it also wasn't a routing issue, so the excursion into
traceroute was also a distraction.

Good discussion, though. Good to see it resolved.

Yes, early on in my mind it was the router (modem to Xfinity), it was a new unit about a month old.
But I enjoyed all the diagnostic things suggested and I DID learn a ton of things, probably forget
80% of it though :-).

Funny old world innit!

If you brought two suitable sized halves of Plutonium together with enough
force, you'd make a very large hole. ;-)
