Wow, interesting. I figured unless he is terrible in training camp that he's a lock because of the salary cap room that would be freed up by cutting Hopkins. Everything I'd heard so far seems to suggest they've been running even, I wonder what Popper's reasoning is here.

I think his comment was that it was very close and would be decided by
whoever did better in training camp and the exhibition games. He just
picked Hopkins at this point due to greater experience.

So the Chargers never signed John Johnson or re-signed Van Noy or
Callahan. Interestingly, all three are still free agents. So is Chase
Daniel for that matter. Callahan is a big surprise to me, as he played
well for the Chargers. I can see their not re-signing him since they
seem to be getting J.C. Jackson back, but it's hard to see why no one
has signed him.

Yes, I hope they bring Callahan back as insurance if possible, I don't want them relying to much on Jackson returning to form - he wasn't looking good in the limited time he played last year. Still don't know what's up with Johnson as it had been widely reported the Chargers were interested and they didn't take a safety in the draft. Daniel I think is retiring, or at least not desperate to sign anywhere as he already is working as an analyst for NFL Network (which he did part-time last season).

Yes, Daniel is tweeting away and much of it is about his TV and YouTube
