Good lord, they really are going for this lifestyle brand thing aren't
they? Penguin house licensing... stuff... with DnD branding. It's not
the worst I have seen (I mean, TSR did license out some strange stuff),
but you really have to wonder... sigh. I don't know. I guess it gets DnD
into the mainstream again, but it doesn't look like the actual game
anymore. So what's the use for the hobby if they do that?

Ok, that last thing has an inbuilt DM screen so there's that.

D&D has been slapped on everything. As you mentioned, TSR was a
particularly bad culprit. Some of their goods included:

Colouring books, Children's story books, Belt Buckles,
Sticker Books, 'Puffy' stickers, Pogs, transfer stickers,
Caps, Bookmarks, Pins, Patches, Modelling Clay, Flashlights,
Action Figures, Pinball Games, Halloween Costumes, Invitation
Cards, Paint-By-Number Kits, Sewing Kits, Paper Plates,
Cookbooks, and Wallets

(And I'm sure that's just the small sampling of D&D-branded goods I am
aware of. There's doubtlessly dozens more, and that's even before you
get into the comic books, magazines, novels, and video-games. Why, I
even heard rumor the name was associated with table-top role-playing
games at some point ;-).

I definitely remember the DnD Cluedo and the Diablo 2 board game from
back in 3rd edition days. Or was the Diablo 2 thing at the end of 2nd? I
think it was WotC though.

It's beginning to look like Star Trek toy marketing in the 70s.

If ever there was an opportunity to tie in Prismatic Spray, that was it.
Don't know how they missed it.

Skittles are more appropriate though. We literally say, "Taste the
rainbow," when we cast that spell in our group.

Gobstopper branded Pris Sphere's would be nice too. Each lick is a spell!
"I cast Cone of Cold!" Lick. "I cast Gust of Wind!" Lick. and so on.

I should be in marketing. Oh wait. I am.
