I just wanted to post one last time before this all ends. I spent so many hours reading this and a handful of other groups. I learned so much. Read so much bull. Got into fights. Blocked the people I thought were tools. I still value the conversations with Seawasp. I reference them with friends. I'm honestly sad. Near tears in fact. Even if this group has been effectively dead for years I still loved knowing it was out there. I still have netbooks from old threads. I'm going to miss this. One last post. Thank you one and all.

Don't give up on Usenet. Newsgroups are only as dead as you want them
to be. Keep posting. We're listening. ;-)

Google is going to stop supporting Usenet in Feb, 2024. No one other than spammers has really been using this group in years. Though at least one of the Gamma World groups I'm on is still somewhat active. The Internet Archive does plan on saving the Usenet postings in a static database. But active posting is coming to an end.

Who even cares about Google? Just get an account on Eternal-September.org
or one of the other many free (or commercial) Usenet news servers you can
find in alt.free.newsservers , alt.usenet.news-server-comparison ,
free.usenet , etc.

I'm still here and check in occasionally too Usenet isn't coming to an
end, just Google's support of it, which was more convenient for me. I'm
interested in Gamma World as well, if there's a Usenet group for it,
point me to it! :)

I'm on a fairly active email group for it, but it's a bit too active for
me to keep up with, and more inconvenient, and I just have lurked there.

rec.games.frp.misc at least has occasional posts so you might check that
newsgroup out, I've seen people posting some D&D related stuff there too.

comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action is about as active as I like, and has
opened up to allow any PC games, and even some talk of mobile and
console games. That group is the main reason I bother with Usenet
anymore.

I switched back to Thunderbird and eternal-september a couple days ago.
I'd forgotten that it's much easier to keep up with multiple groups as I
can see when there's new messages in any of them instead of checking
each individually as I had to do with GG. Also I don't have to worry
about the spam so much as eternal-september is working hard to
pre-filter it. Lastly I don't have to worry about formatting messages
as Thunderbird handles that fine.

IIRC Forte' Agent is better than Thunderbird, but Thunderbird is free.
I might shell out for Agent eventually again if I find Thunderbird too
buggy.

Maybe after google leaves the spam might stop, as the incentive to post it
dramatically reduces. It might be a good thing.

"Starting on February 22, 2024, you can no longer use Google Groups (at
groups.google.com) to post content to Usenet groups, subscribe to Usenet
groups, or view new Usenet content. You can continue to view and search for
historical Usenet content posted before February 22, 2024 on Google Groups."

I wonder if this is going to start the ultimate "last post" competition.

And then the rest of the Usenet will still be there, unaffected.
In fact as Google Groups is regularly filtered out many people might not
even realize it's going on in the first place.
