When looking up something else, I fell over the word "speculator" that
was defined as someone hoping to make a profit from buying and selling.
In Danish "spekulatoren" means "the brain".

The act of buying and selling is called "spekulation", though.

I wonder if there is a European language in which a "speculator" is
someone who wields a speculum?

Having been on the other end of the speculum spectrum
so to speak, I trust the persons were mere spectators
rather than speculators.
