Am I correct in thinking that you once described the sound of your
tinnitus as 'rain drops on a tin roof'? (Someone in AUE did, so I may be
misattributing it.) In which case that would induce me to sleep, rather
than keep me awake. I remember the patter of rain-on-roof as a very
soothing sound, from my childhood.

It wasn't me, because I too love the sound of rain.

Once, as a child, I stayed in my grandparents' house during a big storm.
They had a corrugated iron roof. After I got home, I found some
corrugated iron and put it outside my bedroom window, so that I could
enjoy the sound of the rain.

That'd be OK for your rare ocurrences of rain; but Michael Palin spent 3
days in a tinhut in Bhutan? and couldn't see how anyone could bear the
full 3 months of monsoon the locals usually endure.
