Anyone on the a.c.s.f newsgroup know of a Mozilla free vpn for Firefox?

What's a privacy browser? How is it different from a private window
using any VPN?

They're all free proxy browsers but advertisers prefer to call them VPN.
You turn on the proxy in each browser if/when you want to use the proxy.

Mostly I use them only for IP address obfuscation/privacy & anonymity.

> How is it different from a private window using any VPN?

A free VPN is system wide. A proxy browser only works inside the browser.
Brave has a free tor capacity which is merely a different kind of proxy.

Someone mentioned Mozilla VPN but looking it up, it's a paid system VPN.
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/vpn/download/
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-vpn-free

Not the same thing but I did notice some "VPN Extensions" that were free.

Anyone have experience with those Firefox freeware "VPN/Proxy Extensions"?
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=vpn%20proxy

There are six pages of them, at 12 to a page, for nearly a hundred choices.
Probably they're all just repackaged names for the same proxy. Are they?

Some of the choices for free Firefox VPN extensions were these.

Paladin VPN.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/paladinvpn-unlimited-free-vpn/

Setup VPN.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/setupvpn/

Vee VPN.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/veepn-free-fast-security-vpn/

Hoxx VPN.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hoxx-vpn-proxy/

Touch VPN.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/touch-vpn/

There is also something called "Firefox Proxy" tools, but why are they
needed (given a proxy is just the server that everything goes through)?
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxyproxy-standard/

So, really... what you wish to do is walk down a street and have no
one observe where you're going in public?

When I'm walking down the street (a) I don't want to be wearing see through
clothing and (b) if I visit the AIDS Clinic, advertisers don't need to know
that, and (c) if I constantly purchase large sized women's clothes, I'd
like to keep it my little secret & not something for others to know about.

OK?

Besides, millions of people use the privacy browsers every day so if you're
insinuating that nobody has the right to IP address privacy, that's wrong.

What's happening, I think, is "cloudflare" type outfits are adding the
proxies to their filters which is making it hard for the little guy.

I guess the big guys abused those proxies (why else would cloudflare do it,
other than maybe they're compensating for loss of advertising revenues?).

I don't know. Maybe Orbitz hated that you would check for airplane prices
from an IP address which geolocated to a poorer area of the country.

Maybe web sites rebelled that they couldn't ascribe the advertising popups
to your particular IP address since your address changes with each visit.

I don't know why cloudflare did it.
All I know is the two main privacy browsers got appreciably unworkable.

Given I am seeking the same solution everyone else wants, my main two
questions for this knowledgeable Firefox newsgroup are the following.

1. Are the nearly hundred free Mozilla vpn extensions any good?
(Or are they all the same outfit using a slightly different name?)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=vpn%20proxy

2. Why does this advertise that Firefox has "limited proxy capabilities?"
FoxyProxy Standard by Eric H. Jung
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxyproxy-standard/

What is missing from basic Mozilla to easily use any free vpn extension?

Opera VPN is free in Mozilla Firefox.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/opera-vpn-for-firefox/

But it only has 27 users so they already know everyone who is using it.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=opera%20vpn

Mozilla recommends it & here is what they said about it.
Opera VPN For Chreom is an advanced Proxy service that connects you to a
private secure network. The fast and easy connection hides the real IP
address, thus opening all blocked websites in your country, providing
hidden web surfing and protecting your data.

Friendly design will be suitable for everyone, because we make all our
efforts to simplify the connection, so you just need to follow the next
steps:

Select a country
Click the link button
Surf the internet securely

Opera VPN For Chreom uses modern encryption to provide completely anonymous
and private browsing. All web activities are protected while VPN proxy is
running. It's all about "Hide My Thread" or "Protect data" that you can
apply right now.

VPN proxy for Chrome has high-speed performance and connects to a private
network in seconds. It is a good opportunity to change IP addresses quickly
and easily at any time. Good performance allows smooth or continuous
downloading or streaming.

The service is completely free and works without any registration. Change
geographic location to bypass blocked sites, hide thread to protect data,
or use proxy only to secure the web. It's all about unlimited VPN for
Chrome browser, which is unlimited and available for free.

Proton can be loaded on PCs using Win 10 64 bits and probably Win 11 32
and 64 bit and Win 10 32bit as well. It has free connections from USA,
Japan, and the Netherlands. No time or byte limits.

I've tested every free VPN service ever suggested on the Windows ng.

If you have to create an account to use the free VPN, when there are plenty
of other VPNs which don't force that kind of tracking, it's not optimal.

Use a "throwaway email account" you say?
Create that throwaway email address while you're already on VPN, you say?

You can even create a protonmail email address while on VPN, you say?

The problem with Proton VPN is that they won't take anything but a real
email address (they won't even trust their own domain which is odd) but
more important than that, a VPN is not the same as a web browser proxy is.

And "real email addresses" (like Google's Gmail) are very hard to create
(if not impossible) while you're on a VPN (ask me how I know this fact).

Besides...
I think the OP is seeking a web browser proxy by the fact it's asked here.

Thanks for the very complete answer. I've only looked at it but I'll go
over it in detail tonight.

I've used a VPN when I was abroad so that could get certain audio or
video streams from the US that couldn't be received with an IP from the
countries I was in. OTOH, when I wanted some streams from there, I
couldn't use the VPN because it made me seem to be in the US. Both on
the laptop and the phone. It wasn't that much trouble to turn it off
and on, but this sounds even better.

Plus the other reasons you mention. Fortunately my AIDS test was
negative, and I'm not too particular about style, material, or even fit,
so I can buy my women's clothes online. I have a see-through blouse
that's really nice.

I forget which VPN I tried first and I coudln't get it to work. That
sort of thing always brings up the question, Is it my computer, is it
the new program, or is it ME? But the next one I tried Express VPN
worked fine and included both a PC and a phone. It was not free but
since I wanted it for only 2 months, that was okay. If I'm using one 12
months a year, it would matter more if it were free

I'll read the rest tonight.

"As of 16 May 2023, Proton VPN has a total of 2,914 servers, sited in 67
different nations.[9]" says wikip quoting their About page. But now I
see that's only if you pay for Proton Plus. For free it's only 3
countries. That should be enough for most people, I think.

I think if you sign up for Proton Minus they pay you money.
