When I run a script that runs gnuplot - and only such scripts -
I get these warnings

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = "",
LC_ALL = (unset),
LANG = "da_DK.UTF-8"
are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

I am working under Kubuntu Linux. What do I have to do to
get rid of these warnings? The script then goes on to
work, but this is annoying.

You need to set up your locale. see man locale and its
references.

You can look at the current locale with the 'locale'
command.

For starters, here is mine from Ubuntu 18.04LTS:

tauno@Kubuntu18:~$ locale
LANG=C
LANGUAGE=
LC_CTYPE=fi_FI.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=C
LC_TIME=C
LC_COLLATE=fi_FI.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=fi_FI.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=POSIX
LC_PAPER=fi_FI.UTF-8
LC_NAME=fi_FI.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=fi_FI.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=fi_FI.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=fi_FI.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=fi_FI.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

I'm running Mageia linux, but that shouldn't matter.

$ cat /etc/locale.conf
COUNTRY=CA
LANG=en_CA
LANGUAGE=en_CA:en_GB:en

See it's man page "man locale.conf" for the list of things that can be
specified there.

You have not generated the locale da_DK.UTF-8. Say sudo
dpkg-reconfigure -plow locales and pick da_DK.UTF-8 from the (long)
list.

Disclaimer: I hope that your 'buntu doesnt deviate too much from it's
parent Debian where this would be the solution.

I cannot find "-plow" in dpkg's man page.

dpkg-reconfigure locales

did it for me in the past.

Yep. I "accidentally" once installed MINT instead of Debian vanilla, but
more or less converted it back to Debian.

Not that the OP should attempt it. Ubuntu should just work fine. But
Debian-knowledge should be helpful when running Ubuntu, MINT,...

Read
-plow
as
--priority=low
as in
-pvalue, --priority=value
Specify the minimum priority of question that will be displayed. dpkg-reconfigure
normally shows low priority questions no matter what your default priority is. See
debconf(7) for a list

I tried both suggestions. They both call forth a blue screen and I can
scroll down to the "da_DK.UTF-8" entry and leave the red marker on it.
But the <Ok> button at the bottom is dead, just text that does nothing.
Now what? Is there a way to go in and edit this locale thing, add that
manually?

Hit tab once so <Ok> is highlighted, then press enter.
