Unfortunately not much detail about a proposed ECML service. What’s
noticeable about the ECML north of Newcastle is how little traffic it
carries. I was having lunch the other day overlooking the Royal Border
Bridge at Berwick. During my whole lunch period (around 40 minutes) only
one train passed in each direction. (It wasn’t a strike day). Lumo services
are also noticeable by how short they are compared to LNER. If paths are in
short supply further south they are a waste.

I remember how Michael Bell admitted this, while simultaneously wanting HS2 to go that way.

Yes, Lumo is looking at lengthening its trains, either by running double 5-car units, or lengthening them to seven or
nine-carriages.

I've suggested that HT and Lumo services could join at Doncaster, jointly using only a single path on the southern ECML.

Good grief. Virgin are responsible for some of the most uncomfortable
and unpleasant trains running on the UK network.
