What's with the flurry of posts which *appear* to be follow-ups to
three-and-four year-old threads?

They *seem* to be posts ostensibly to *alt.test> but are being dumped
in Eternal-september's *uk.railway* portfolio as well.

As I explained, I'm clearing out old unsent messages from my out-tray. Some
are really old. I'm trying to dump them elsewhere but some that were
destined for here have come here. Please ignore them. I hope there won't be
any more.

Yes, I'd tried pressing on messages, hoping a right-click-style menu would
pop up, but it never occurred to me to swipe left.

There's a help system. This is all that it says about the Out Tray:

Out Tray

All articles which were saved and which will be send are listed in the Out
Tray. Articles which are marked with a red label will not be sent when
connecting to the server. This is the case either because they were only
saved, or some information is missing (like the group or the subject) and
therefore can not be sent.

[Note the lack of any mention of how to delete unsent messages.]

I’m starting to wonder how I ever found out about the swipe left. You can
do this in the message view window too. After the earlier reference to
Tinder I looked that up and indeed swipe left is to reject. So happy
swiping left on messages you don’t wish to read for whatever reason….

Yes, I'd discovered that by accident, but hadn't realised that it also worked with the Out Tray.

It's a standard feature for iOS apps, part of whatever kind of
style-guide documentation apple provides for developers. There is
probably some sort of assumption on the part of developers that if its
in the style guide as the standard way to do things, people will have
figured it out.
