My mechanic tells me that my Stagea has cracks in the aluminium
sub-chassis. Common fault at around 250,000kms apparently. He can't do
aluminimum welding. Can anyone suggest a place in Sydney who can
accomplish this job?

Any engineering company should be able to do it for you, but the
difficulty will be doing it in the car. Unfortunately cast aluminium
alloy used in automotive components is ridiculously filthy in terms of
impurities, and it's difficult to weld at the best of times when you
have the component dismantled and thoroughly prepped for welding let
alone still mounted in the car where it's most likely to be difficult to
gain proper access to.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone in NSW who specialises in such repairs
and the only thing I can recommend is that you search for anyone who
does alloy welding.

It's a shame you don't live down here, as I'd happily do it for you.

Can't help with a welder but just a suggestion but it may be possible to
replace the sub frame/chassis rather than weld it?
Is it the front sub frame under the engine?
If so if you can find the part replacing it shouldn't be all that difficult.
A panel shop that specializes in high end Euro cars might be worth a try
as many late model Euro's especially sports cars have a lot of alloy
chassis parts so they may have specialist welders.

You mean it’s extremely lucky Trevor lives nowhere near Victoria so he’s
safe from ever having a lying bullshit artist wannabe like you working on
his car. FFS, you have never done a welding apprenticeship, never attained
a relevant qualification nor ever gained appropriate certification. In fact
I’d guarantee you have SFA *experience* in highly specialised welding. Just
who are you trying to kid here Darren? Hey, time to front up with proof of
your ability to make good on your offer.
