She doesn't strike me as anything spectacular. Musically or otherwise.
To each their own of course, but I think the world's taste in music
these days is pretty average, and seems to be defined on how skimpy your
outfit is.

lol. You silly felix.

That's just reinforcing my opinion that she's all Product and no talent.

She probably spends more on hair and make-up in a week than Carole King
did in her first ten years of performing.

How the hell are you *qualified* to comment on the *world's taste in
music*? How do you define said taste as *average*? What benchmarks do
you use. At best you could say the world's taste in music is *eclectic*.
You really do need to get out more.

I had the misfortune yesterday to be passing through a small venue when
a female singer of average talent with an above average sound system
started into Celine Deon's "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIye will always
lerve youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue"

I was rather like standing next to a jet engine spooling up.

That sounds more like the Whitney Houston version of Dolly Parton's
original song. Dolly's original is the only one worth listening to IMO.

Still, it could be worse - like being dragged to see some cover band
fronted by a long has-been geriatric mumbling his way through a show.

At least Swift puts on a show even if her music is pretty meh.

Not Whitney Houston?

Bwahahahaha an F-4E Phantom? :-D

We went to a bar on the Grand Princess last week... waitress was
awesome, and Barman even moreso ("Double or triple?"), and an Asian
couple (she vocals, he guitar) did a great job of Sade's Smooth
Operator. Amazing how the sound of sax, drums and keyboards appeared out
of nowhere... and he'd forgotten to plug his guitar into the amp :-)
Was nothing but karaoke, but I didnt give a shit whilst they were
feeding me Glenlivet... :-)

Her career thus far has been nothing short of spectacular. Musically
*and* otherwise!

https://theconversation.com/how-did-taylor-swift-get-so-popular-she-never-goes-out-of-style-213871

From a music perspective, Swift has broken a lot of records.
Last month, she became the first female artist in Spotify
history to reach 100 million monthly listeners.
Swift has achieved 12 number one albums on Billboard, the
most by a woman artist, overtaking Barbra Streisand earlier
this year.
She’s the first and only woman solo artist to win the Album
Of The Year Grammy three times, for Fearless (2009), 1989
(2015) and Folklore (2020) – each in a different musical
genre. It’s a credit to Swift’s masterful songwriting, and
demonstrates her ability to adapt her craft for different
audiences.
There is an expectation for female artists to constantly
re-invent themselves, something Swift reflected on in her
Netflix documentary Miss Americana:
"The female artists I know of have to remake
themselves like 20 times more than the male
artists, or you’re out of a job."
Over the course of her career, Swift has evolved from an
award-winning country music singer to one of the biggest
pop stars in the world. Each of her ten original studio
albums has a distinct theme and aesthetic, which have been
celebrated on Swift’s juggernaut Eras Tour.
The tour, which has just wrapped up its first US leg, is
set to be the highest-grossing of all time, boosting local
travel and tourism revenue along the way. A recent report
estimates the tour could help add a monumental US$5 billion
(A$7.8 billion) to the worldwide economy.

And that's not even the half of it. What is clear, she adapts her music
to the tastes of the *audience* and to the tastes of the era whether
those tastes are pop, country, folk, rock or alternative. She adapts
seamlessly into all those genres.

I think you're just jealous of people who are successful because you, in
your own *career*, were spectacularly *unsuccessful*. So unsuccessful in
fact that you had to *invent* a whole career in automotive.

The only thing you are spectacular in has been *failure*. Not a good
position from which to judge others.

Lol :)

I don't have much of an ear for "modern" music, as I find most of it to
be way too fabricated. Lots of filters and overdubs, and the music
itself is incredibly boring and often performed by people who have a
level of talent that doesn't live up to their reputation.

Taylor Swift is one such massively over rated performer in my opinion.
Beyonce is another. Lady Gaga another still. All incredibly popular, and
all with popularity that is massively disproportionate to the level of
talent they seem to possess as far as I can tell.

But There are some genuine talents out there.

Adele has a great voice, and Christina Aguilera is amazing. Mariah
Carey's vocal range is incredible, and Taylor Dane's power and range was
truly phenomenal. I don't particularly like their individual styles, but
you don't have to be a fan of their work to appreciate their talent.

However if you were to ask me who I think the best female singer is
today, I can answer that question *easily*: Beth Hart.

Not many people know of her as she hasn't anywhere near the level of
popularity of the pretty little girls, and she's certainly not
everyone's cup of tea, but this woman does the whole "rock chick" thing
better than anyone else in the world, and she has a voice that is quite
simply astonishing on so many levels.

Her version of Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" is awesome.

Alternative Theory: Most of her stuff makes no impression and is
instantly forgettable. The few exceptions being the tracks that are
irritating. Even on their first hearing.
