Yep. Felix's biggest attraction to things like cars seems to be price,
and that's a sure fire way to be disappointed. Still, if it blows his
skirt up then good on him. Hope it turns out to be everything he wants
it to be, but given the reviews I doubt it.

If it were me I would have kept the Lancer :)

Stuffed if I can see the attraction of these cheap new cars, from what I
can see everything about them is cheap including critical items like tyres.

And that's the thing. The cheap end of the market generally offers up
the worst crap as the price point is uber competitive, and while the
Chinese have to offer more for the money to get their foot in the door
against the established marques they don't seem to be able to match any
of them when it comes to quality.

Or design. For the life of me I can't imagine why anyone would think a
car with an engine that makes a paltry 84kW should be mated to a 4 speed
auto in 2023. Nor can I think why anyone would *want* one.

sleep soundly. The MG HS I hired needs A LOT of re-engineering to make
it safe, nice to drive and usable by humans.

And this is the biggest problem with their cars at the moment I think.
They know how to load them up with features. They just have no idea how
to combine it all into a nice overall package.

Like when I looked at Chinese utes last year. They all offered more for
the money than any of the established brands. They just couldn't turn it
into something that you'd want to own. And that was the same for
Ssangyong as well which was a little surprising given that the Koreans
generally make a decent car.

It would rather under whelming.
Too many people seem to get sucked in by a cheap car simply because its
new, I'd rather spend the same money on a good SH quality car.
I recently looked at a 2013 C250 MB which I could of bought for $23k, it
had only done 83k km and came with a 2yr MB warranty, IMHO a hell of a
lot of car for not much money.

nothing wrong with the Lancer. quite the opposite. it was pristine. the
dealer couldn't believe the condition and low mileage. why did I sell it?..
1. prices for second hand cars are high at present due the scarcity of
new cars and long wait times
2. although I bought it new in 2019 it was 2017 MY, so six years old
3. I wanted a SUV for roominess and easy to get in/out of
4. the change over cost of just $5.5k was too good to miss
5. I like buying new cars. it's exciting!  :)

According to Redbook the 2023 ZS is only available in Australia with a
conventional 4 speed auto, which you'd have to assume is a three speed
with overdrive top gear. Given that the thing weighs 1255kg and has 84kW
on tap *(at 6000rpm :), it's bound to be a pretty average performer.

Interestingly, it comes with 17 inch alloy wheels, but comes with a full
sized steel spare in 15 inch diameter. I wouldn't have thought such a
thing would be legal, as it's certainly illegal to run two different
diameter wheels on the same axle :)

At the end of the day what anyone else thinks of it is irrelevant as
Felix is the one that has to live with it, but as I said in another post
if it were me I would have kept the Lancer. Or bought something else.

Second hand cars aren't on my radar these days, prices are ridiculous.
That said, if for some reason we were to inadvertently write one of our
cars off, I'd be forced to front the used market in the short term.

Hmm, my current Toy is 2016, might be time for a refresh. I've been put

Yeah, I'm thinking of something similar - like the look of the Yaris
Cross Hybrid, not too big, ideal for running around town - which is most
of my mileage these days anyway. Good on fuel @ 4 litres per 100 but the
petrol only version isn't exactly a guzzler at 5.4 litres per 100. But a
wait time of over a year - which is why my current Toy is still with me.

Autos aren't quite the power sapping devices they used to be. There was
a time when the 4 cylinder cars used the same overall trans used in 6
cylinder cars - just reduced the torque handling capability, but the
full hydraulic drag was there. Nowadays autos are matched to engine size
to a much greater degree and, in the case of CVTs, lose nothing in
comparison to their manual equivalents.

My Maz3 is also 2016 (January), it has 101K Km on it. There is
absolutely nothing wrong with it, it averages 6.7 L/100Km on regular 91.
The original tyres lasted 90K Km and it is still on its original brake
pads. Why would I want to get rid of it.
