Is the fixed price model dying?

Maybe. Volvo is dumping it:

https://www.drive.com.au/news/volvo-australia-u-turn-fixed-prices-electric-cars/?utm_campaign=syndication&utm_source=smh.com.au&utm_content=article_4&utm_medium=partner

Honda and Merc may take notice.

Let's hope. Well, not that I give a shit, because I won't be buying a
Merc anytime soon and Honda don't have anything that interests me.

Unlikely if they are selling enough cars.
In my experience negotiating on new car prices is as much about luck as
it is about having good negotiating skills, you get lucky if you just
happen to walk into a dealership when they are wanting to get rid of a
particular car that you are interested in, if they have a car that is
selling well and there is no lack of buyers then the chances of getting
a discount are very low.
You can negotiate on the value of your trade in and they can shuffle the
numbers around to make you feel better and maybe throw in some "extras"
but in the end the change over price is pretty much controlled by the
dealer.
Quite a while ago I asked my wife's friend who is an owner of several
large dealerships including Toyota Hyundai Suzuki and Isuzu why they
don't discount Hilux's, she replied that they can sell every Hilux they
can get at full price so why should they discount.

I've lost interest in any new car of any make, IMHO they are very poor
value at the current over inflated prices they are asking.
For example a mate in Qld has a 70 series Landcruiser ute, he paid $76k
10yrs ago, its done 180,000km, looking on carsales similar year models
with similar kms are advertised for about the same price he paid for it
10yrs ago.

All manufacturers, regardless of whatever they make, all have one thing
in common. And that thing is that as good as an idea might seem to them
at any given time they are *all* prepared to ditch it in favour of
reverting back to old ways that will make money.

Dumping it's fixed price model doesn't fix the fact that Geely is it's
parent company which I think might be a bigger issue. "Volvo" have
announced that they will be an all electric manufacturer by 2030 which
should make you happy :-)

Honda don't seem to make anything that interests anyone at the moment
and I will be surprised if they still have a presence in Australia in 5
years. That's what happens when you drop the ball on innovation but
still try to ride on past glories for over two decades.

Just to add, Geely/Volvo is also on the nose in Europe for remaining one
of the manufacturers that still sells new cars in Russia.

ROTFL :) Haven't sold a car or truck in Russia for 18 months, but let's
not let reality get in the way of another one of this useless dickhead's
rants.

They can't help themselves.....

English not your first language?

Geely, Volvo's parent company, as mentioned, is still selling cars in
Russia and has been condemned in Europe for doing so.

You can't help yourself, that much is certain. You made a fool of
yourself *again*. You're good at that.

*Chinese* cars are all you can get in Russia currently. Well, apart from
Russian made cars and cars stolen from western countries. Geely is a
Chinese brand and Geely is the majority shareholder in Volvo. Volvos are
now manufactured in China so will be available in Russia though not,
obviously, through the Swedish Volvo dealer network. They went back to
Sweden, IIRC.

Lots of skulduggery going on in the Chinese car industry at the moment.
I'm just wondering when China manufactured cars will get sanctioned in
the west.

only the S90.

Location Model(s)
South Carolina, USA S60, XC90 (next gen model)
Torslanda, Sweden XC60, XC90, V90 Cross Country
Ghent, Belgium XC40, V60 Cross Country, C40
Daqing, China S90

Note this

https://www.media.volvocars.com/global/en-gb/media/pressreleases/285269/volvo-cars-to-take-full-ownership-of-its-chinese-manufacturing-and-sales-operations

IE. the Chinese operation is Volvo's not Geely's. Presumably then Volvo
have control of where the output of the Chinese factory goes.

It's obviously not yours, you have no grasp of context. The thread is
about Volvo not Geely.

Firstly, Geely is a major shareholder in Volvo, not it's parent company.

Read this and realise how stupid you are

https://www.volvogroup.com/en/investors/the-volvo-share/ownership-information.html

See my reply to Xeno, Geely doesn't even own the Volvo plant in China.

They do indeed, and the most ludicrous part about all of it is how
ridiculously infantile they make themselves look when trying to cover
their arses after they've made complete cunts out of themselves as
they've done here.

Seriously I don't know why they don't just *shut the fuck up* and move
onto somewhere else, as no one around here thinks they're anything but a
joke.

The *legit* output, yes. The rest, not so much.
Note well, no foreign company has full ownership or control over any
manufacturing entity in China. Every company has to have CCP members on
their board to oversee operations. Currently obtaining even general
business info can be construed as *spying*, according to new Chinese
laws, and that has accelerated the flow of foreign investment *out of
China*. So, Volvo may *think* they have control of where their output
goes, the reality is somewhat different.

Have a look on Youtube. That was info I saw last year. I've been keeping
tabs on Russia and China through various channels.

But China are selling lots of cars into the Soviet space.

https://www.drive.com.au/news/chinese-car-sales-in-russia-skyrocket-2023/

https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202307/1294155.shtml
NB: the above is a Chinese propaganda channel

I lost my contact in China on 29th Dec. last year. In the last email I
received from him in May he mentioned cancer, next was an email on 27th
Feb from his wife advising me of his demise. Sad, I've known him since 1976.
My link to the Russian space has left Russia - health reasons or, more
accurately, a desire to remain healthy. So, getting direct info from the
Sino/Soviet space is now distinctly more difficult. All I have in the
Sino/Soviet space now are a few Vloggers on Youtube and even they have
left Russia and China in order to remain healthy. They have mentioned
Chinese cars in Russia quite often.

Most likely you.

As I said, there's lots of skulduggery going on in the Sino/Soviet car
space. Ever heard of *badgework engineering*?

And then there's this;

https://foreignpolicy.com/2023/08/14/russia-iran-caspian-sea-sanctions-busting-paradise/

Here's a scenario for you. Volvo sends cars to the Middle East. Seems
innocuous. They end up in Iran and transit through to Russia via the
Caspian Sea without Volvo cars being able to *control* the ultimate
destination.

Infantile? What is creating a complete career in automotive then? Your
ego couldn't stop at *one trade*, you had to *claim* 3 trades and 2
qualifications. Not only that, you claimed business ownership in an
enterprise that doesn't exist in the records where you said it was -
just a business registration at your parent's home in Altona. It's a
pity that, for you, your grandiosity was foiled by the complete lack of
*any records* in your name. But that claim of VACC membership, what a
beauty that was, foiled by a simple email. Darren, you trip up over your
own bullshit soooo much that it's *ridiculously infantile*.

> their arses after they've made complete cunts out of themselves as

Whilst on the topic Darren, how about *proving your claims* or are you
just going to continue making yourself look *ridiculously infantile*. I
must say, you're getting good at it.

That mirror again Darren. A *running joke* is *exactly* what a
*confirmed liar* like you has become.

Wrong *again* Fraudster!

As your bizzare and mythological posting history makes obvious, you are
totally incapable of knowing what "ludicrous" is. Like your effort above
Fraudster. Now I didn't open any of the links as I don't care enough to
discover who's right and who's wrong as easily the "most ludicrous" thing
here is *you* bleating about someone (possibly) making a *mistake*. *You*,
as the perpetrator of the biggest collection of *lies* outside of
Trumpworld that I know of, look a deranged laughing-stock, for attempting
to put shit on people for making a *mistake*. Clearly your values are as
well calibrated as your English.

You are a buffoon Fraudster.
Always have been, always will be.

There was only one mistake... by ol' Slimey Liemey.

My links prove I was right and he was wrong. The fraudster doesn't
concern himself with facts so he's irrelevant in this.

Yes, it is indisputable that the sales of Chinese cars have increased
since the western manufacturers have pulled out, but what is the
relevance to Volvo?

Really, so where is the evidence that Volvo is doing this? You may want

Did he actually post any?

You were the only one replying to him as far as I can tell, and you
usually quote people verbatim. I didn't see any links from him quoted by
you, so you either deliberately snipped them or he never posted any to
begin with.

I know where my money would be, but he's free to cite the message he
reckons he posted these mythical links in. Don't hold your breath
waiting though, as he's getting as bad as his mental mate Clasener when
it comes to dealing with reality.

When did he ever have any? A perfect example of his inability to tell
the same story twice resulting in his complete lack of credibility:

In response to Trevor asking for battery charger recommendations, on
23/6/19 Jerky Jerkoff claimed:

> Can't go wrong with the C-Tek range, I use and have fitted many of their

However on August 6 this year he blurted:

In the space of a few short years he's gone from loving the things so
much that he not only uses them personally but fits them to all his
"clients" vehicles, to hating their guts and clearly wouldn't use one if
you gave him one for free. Clearly you have to wonder if *anything* he
says isn't just an invention for the sake of bullshitting his brains out
around here.

Just like his mate Clasener in fact. I wonder if they're the same person? :)

Depends on what news sources you listen to or watch. Quite a few
authoritative news sources now have a presence on Youtube. Unfortunately
so do the Russian and Chinese propaganda sources (State Media) - like
the Global Times - not too hard to pick these out though.

Volvos are ending up in Russia under grey (black?) market schemes. You
know, skulduggery. Even though the *official* dealership network is out
of the country doesn't mean you can't buy a new Volvo - it's just going
to cost you a lot more. Parts sourcing, from what I read, is rather
fraught as well.

Nothing astonishes Noddy so much as common sense and plain dealing.
