............Clive Palmer is doing something good with all the money he
stole from the Australian taxpayers and his long suffering employees:

1,200 cars.

Sorta puts Giltrap's Auto Museum to shame. I loved Giltrap's.

Anyone else remember Glitrap's?

Take whatever he claims with a massive grain of salt, and get excited

Be interesting to see if it actually happens, like many politicians he

That would well and truely beat Lindsay Fox's version in Melbourne:
http://www.foxcollection.org.au/about-us.html

But it's at the right end of the country for me.

Sounds like a fun place.

It reminds me a little of the Geraldine Vintage Car Museum in Geraldine,
New Zealand. A great little place with lots of interesting cars and
machinery. My in-laws lived directly across the street from it in
Geraldine, so whenever we went over for a visit I'd always hand out
there and "volunteer" helping with a few old cars or bits of machinery
whenever they were having a running day.

Gerladine is a lovely little country town that is one of the last
"tourist" stops on the way to Mt.Cook, so if you're ever in that part of
the world I thoroughly recommend lunch at the bakery and a visit to the
museum.

Without knowing exactly what will be displayed at the Palmer car museum
its impossible to say that it will beat the Fox collection, maybe in
numbers but unknown if it could beat it for rarity and quality.

Palmer has had a car museum at Coolum for quite a number of years.
Palmer bought the Coolum Resort and ran it into the ground forcing out
the permanent residents. He kept the golf course open which, I think,
was actually what he really wanted. He opened a car museum there 10
years ago, probably not as grand as the one that he is proposing, but
had a lot of old vehicles. I don't know if it is still open

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EanmYVPgEqs

I took my son's two boys up there probably 8 years ago to see the life
size dinosaur models that he had installed. They were looking a bit sad
then and sometime later they just rotted away from lack of maintenance.
The car museum was there then but we didn't go in. The resort must have
been nice once but, even then, it was looking down at heel and tumble
weeds were blowing through the place. Very sad, it was once an
attraction and employment for the locals, bit a lot of what Clive
touches turns to shit.

If you go further south to Invercargill, there is a very nice motorcycle
museum. From the look of their website, it has changed a bit since I was
there in 2016, it was in a hardware shop then.

Yep. I was there a bit before that and it was nothing like it is now.
The movie about Burt Monroe seems to have put it on the map.

Interestingly, John Britten's stuff seems to be scattered about a bit.
The display dedicated to him at the Invercargill Motorcycle Museum looks
impressive, but the motor home he built on an old International truck is
permanently based at the Geraldine Car Museum.

No idea why it's in Geraldine. I did ask once how it came to be there
but the bloke I spoke to couldn't tell me anything more than "it was
donated"

<Shrug> It would certainly make more sense for it to be at the bike
museum as part of the Britten display, as it kind of looks out of place
at the Geraldine museum.
